About the Climate Change Data Center
People are always asking questions like “Where can I find data
on US emissions of greenhouse gases?”, “How much renewable energy can we expect
in the US in 2020?”, and “How
does my state’s energy usage compare to California’s
energy usage?”
In most cases, the data is somewhere on
the Web, but there are several problems:
- Finding the data you are looking for
- Understanding the validity of the data
- Separating the information from the misinformation and
disinformation
- Visualizing the data
We are hoping that the Climate Change Data Center will mitigate these problems by providing (1) tools
to help users visualize data, and (2) a searchable database of links to data sources.
The latter contains links to both Web sites
of organizations which contain climate change information and to the specific
Web page that provide the data. Each
link is categorized to enable the user to more easily search for specific data
items. In addition, users can display the
categorization before examining the Web page in detail, thus potentially saving
considerable time and effort. Also, users
can comment on each data source and submit recommendations for changes to the
categorization. We encourage all users
to register so that they can share their favorite links and data.
We are also hoping that people interested in climate change
issues will take the time to share their research with others by adding data
sources to our site. If we all work
together, we can pool our knowledge and allow other people to more easily share
that knowledge.
This Web site is run by volunteers. Please let us know if you can help by filling
out the survey (click the ‘Survey’ link to the left).
